What is Harris Tweed? Shimamura and Daiso have it, but actually...
Harris Tweed. It's my favorite tweed brand.
The name is also very cute and has a strong presence.
In recent years, Shimamura and Daiso have become increasingly popular, and they have become more popular among the general public.
To be honest, I refrain from owning one.
The atmosphere, including the logo, has become a bit cheap.
Sorry for sounding so arrogant.
But is Harris Tweed really that cheap?
The answer is not cheap at all.
This is an extremely high-quality fabric that costs about 8,000 yen per meter.
Are you surprised? It's not just a brand with a cute name.
Today I'd like to introduce you to Harris Tweed, a brand that I love but am currently refraining from purchasing.
What is Harris Tweed? -The History of Harris Tweed-
Harris Tweed is a brand of tweed (fabric).
1846 Lady Dunmore commissions artisans on the Isle of Harris to weave Moray tartan into tweed.

It is a tweed brand that has been around for over 100 years since 1846.
It is actually a supplier to the British Royal Family, and in the 1990s the Harris Tweed Act was enacted, bringing Harris Tweed technology and products under international protection.
It's now a national brand.
Where and how is it made?
Harris Tweed is made from wool sourced on the Isles of Harris and Lewis in Scotland and is hand woven into each piece.
The fabric is woven on looms that are located in each islander's home.
Only finished fabric that meets the strict standards set by the Harris Tweed Authority is recognised as Harris Tweed.
Harris Tweed is not made in a factory full of machines, but is made individually in each home.
No matter how you look at it, it's not cheap. (´゚д゚`)
Harris Tweed name label meaning and logo
When you think of Harris Tweed, that cute name comes to mind.
In fact, it's not just a label, it has been used for over 100 years and is a name that guarantees the quality of Harris Tweed.
The logo in the center is an adaptation of the family crest of the founder of the Harris Tweed Association.
Even though it's a 100 year old design, it doesn't feel dated at all.
It's actually pretty cool.
Harris Tweed fabric available in Japan
It seems like you can buy it online without any problems.
(Fabric width 150cm) Costs about 8,000 yen per meter.
Canvas (fabric width 110) costs around 1,000 yen per meter, so I think you can see how expensive it is.
That said, there is a difference of about 40 cm in the width of the fabric, but it is still expensive.
It feels a little cheaper than leather.
The difference between high-end Harris Tweed sold at department stores and the cheap Harris Tweed sold at Shimamura
Now, Harris Tweed is very expensive, and I hope you now understand why it is so expensive.
But what is the difference between the high-quality Harris Tweed sold at department stores and select shops and the cheap Harris Tweed sold at Shimamura and Daiso?
It's the difference in the company that plans the product.
So the fabric is the same, but the products themselves are designed by each company or brand.
Simply put, the famous brand Harris Tweed products are
Famous brands use Harris Tweed fabric to make their products.
Shimamura products are
Shimamura uses Harris Tweed fabric to make its products.
Therefore, the quality that the Harris Tweed name guarantees is not the quality of the product, but the quality of the fabric.
Therefore, just like the Cordura we introduced previously ( What is CORDURA? A fabric with excellent waterproof and durability ), products made with Harris Tweed fabric can be labeled with the Harris Tweed name.
Thank you for reading to the end (´・ω・`)
I did some research on Harris Tweed for this fabric, and it turns out it's really great! Harris Tweed!!
I feel a little embarrassed that I had been holding off on buying it for some reason.
The fabric is definitely very sturdy and gives a sense of security.
You want to use products that you think are good without being swayed by brands.
But I don't buy Harris Tweed from "Daiso" or "Shimamura"... (´・ω・`)
There are pants too... lol
