In particular, Setouchi Leather, a company born in the Setouchi region, often comes to visit our workshop. They listen to our requests and produce a really nice finish, so I'm always excited about it.
Today I would like to introduce you to Setouchi Leather.

What is Setouchi Leather, born in the Setouchi region?

Setouchi Leather is a leather brand born in Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture. Although it is a leather brand, it does not make accessories or bags, but rather makes the leather itself.

The tannery is located near the Ibo River, a first-class river that flows into the Seto Inland Sea, and turns skins into leather.

Who is Tanner?

Skin (raw hide) is the material that has been removed from the animal's body.
If this skin (raw hide) is left as it is, it will rot.

To prevent the leather from rotting or changing, it goes through a process called "tanning."
Skin becomes leather when tanning agents chemically and physically combine with collagen protein, the main component of leather.

The people who do this tanning process are called tanners.

Furthermore, Setouchi Leather's raw hides are basically made from tanned cows and horses born and raised in Japan, making it truly made in Japan!

I had previously heard that a lot of Japan's raw hides are imported from overseas (after all, Americans and Europeans eat a lot more meat), so I was quite surprised when I heard this story.
